GA 22

State Route 22 (SR 22) is a state highway that runs southwest-to-northeast in an eastern arc through portions of Muscogee, Talbot, Taylor, Upson, Crawford, Bibb, Jones, Baldwin, Hancock, Taliaferro, Oglethorpe, and Madison counties in western and west-central Georgia. The route runs from its southwestern terminus at the Alabama state line in Columbus, across the state line from Phenix City, to its northeastern terminus at SR 72 in Comer.

SR 22 begins at the Alabama state line cosigned with US 80. Together, the two routes travel east from Columbus, passing through Talbotton and Knoxville, before arriving in Macon, Georgia. In Macon, SR 22 departs US 80 and travels northeast to Gray, cosigned with US 129/SR 11. In Gray, SR 22 departs the concurrency, and travels east through Milledgeville, then northwest to Sparta. After a brief concurrency with SR 15 north of Sparta, the two routes split, and SR 22 continues north, passing through Crawfordville and Lexington, to reach its northern terminus at SR 72 in Comer.

SR 22 sees significant traffic around the Columbus area and between Macon and Milledgeville. Between Columbus and Macon, most through traffic has been diverted to SR 96, which has recently been upgraded for implementation into the Fall Line Freeway. North of Sparta, SR 22 sees scant usage; the Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) is less than 2000 vehicles north of the concurrency with SR 15.

State Route 22 Connector (SR 22 CONN) is a short connector in Columbus. It connects the SR 22 mainline to SR 85.

State Route 22 Spur (SR 22 Spur) connects the SR 22 mainline with downtown Columbus. SR 22 Spur follows the former alignment of US 80/SR 22 through Columbus.
