State Route 44 (SR 44) is a state highway that runs southwest-to-northeast through portions of Jones, Putnam, Greene, Taliaferro, Wilkes, and Lincoln counties in east-central Georgia. The route runs from its southwestern terminus at US 129, SR 11, SR 18 and SR 22 in Gray to its northeastern terminus at SR 79 northwest of Lincolnton.

From its southern terminus in Gray, where SR 22 departs US 129, SR 44 travels northeast, concurrent with US 129, to just south of Eatonton. There, US 129 departs, and continues north concurrent with US 441/SR 24, while SR 44 continues north into downtown Eatonton concurrent with US 441 BUS/SR 24 BUS. SR 44 departs downtown to the east, concurrent with SR 16 for a few miles, before departing SR 16 and continuing to the northeast. The route crosses over Lake Oconee, then has an interchange at I-20 before arriving in Greensboro. In Greensboro, SR 44 becomes cosigned with US 278/SR 12, and the three routes travel to the east to Union Point. In Union Point, SR 44 departs US 278/SR 12, and, after being briefly concurrent with SR 77, continues to the east-northeast to Washington. After a brief concurrency in Washington with US 78/SR 10, SR 44 continues to the northeast, meeting its northern terminus at SR 79 northwest of Lincolnton. The roadway continues as Graball Road.

SR 44 is a major route southwest of Union Point, and sees an Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) of over 5,000 vehicles. Northeast of Union Point, however, the route serves mostly local traffic, and sees an AADT of less than 2,000 vehicles.

State Route 44 Spur (SR 44 Spur) is a short spur route connecting the SR 44 mainline with SR 47 south of Washington. It is known as Harris Road.
